MANILA, Philippines – Emperador Inc., the world’s largest brandy maker, reported a net income of P7 billion last year, up 14.7 percent from P6.1 billion in 2014.

Revenues grew to P43.6 billion from P32 billion, the company told the Philippine Stock Exchange.

Emperador made the highest quarterly net income in the fourth quarter of 2015, amounting to P2.26 billion — 38 percent year-on-year increase versus the same period a year ago and as much as 56 percent increase from the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter of last year, Tan’s Grupo Emperador Spain S.A. completed the purchase of Bodega Fundador from Beam Suntory, a 286-year old Spanish liquor company which sells global brands Fundador Pedro Domecq, making it the world’s biggest brandy company.

With the acquisition, Emperador now owns nearly 1,500 hectares of vineyard land in Spain, around 1,000,000 square meters of cellar and bottling facilities, and four distilleries in Spain.

“This recent development truly marks an epoch in Emperador’s history. The long-term potential of our brandy business is more compelling than ever. We have become even more global,” said Emperador president Winston Co.

Emperador now has a much bigger product portfolio of brandy and whisky that has greater global presence.  The core local product, Emperador brandy, can surely benefit from this international route to market given export opportunities in other countries.

“We are best positioned to capitalize on premiumization opportunities in the Philippine market. We now have a broad spectrum of products available locally ranging from standard to ultra-premium offerings. Our core local product, Emperador brandy, remains to be the undisputed leader in the local liquor industry.

We also now have a compelling presence in foreign liquor in the Philippines with our Fundador brandy and single malt whisky products, The Dalmore and Jura,” Co said.

Emperador Inc. is majority-owned by tycoon Andrew Tan’s Alliance Global Group Inc.
